Second assistance project: Mitsubishi to help poor Indian farming villages

TOKYO — Mitsubishi Corp. will expand its assistance to impoverished rural communities in India, offering farming advice and access to drinking water.

The Japanese trading house will contribute about 50 million yen ($413,000) to India’s MS Swaminathan Research Foundation. Through this foundation, it will build sanitation facilities in eight villages in the southeastern state of Andhra Pradesh in addition to helping them develop their agricultural and fisheries industries by providing information and setting up communication links to experts.

This will mark Mitsubishi’s second assistance project for farming villages in India following one in the neighboring state of Odisha.

Mitsubishi will also offer Japanese-language courses and other classes through an educational center at Andhra University. It joined hands with Isuzu Motors to establish an automotive technology support center in Andhra Pradesh in July.
