Growth market: Daikin to step up A/C sales in Vietnam

HO CHI MINH CITY — Air conditioner maker Daikin Industries will kick its sales drive into high gear in Vietnam, a market seen growing into the largest A/C market in Southeast Asia soon.

The Japanese company has three after-sales service locations and plans to raise that to 20 by the end of March 2017. Maintenance is important in Vietnam, where A/C systems run for prolonged periods due to the hot and humid weather.

The after-sales service locations, now in such major cities as Hanoi, have call center functions and are staffed with technicians. Daikin plans to open more in regional cities as well. It will also more than double the number of Proshop sales outlets to 60 by the end of March 2017.

Daikin boasts a large market share in Vietnam both for commercial and residential air conditioners, posting sales of about 30 billion yen ($248 million) for the year ended March 31. It made a full-fledged entry into the market in 2008. The company focuses mostly on high-end products, importing them from Thailand.
