The Facebook logo is pictured at the Facebook headquarters in Menlo ParkWould seem two social media giants, Facebook (FB: NYSE) and Instagram went offline for a brief period this morning in Europe, the Middle East and Europe. The outage affected both desktop and mobile sites.

The Facebook reported a problem after 0600 GMT after users began to receive error messages that “something went wrong.” The company is working to fix the problem. At the time of this report, there were still problems on the social media giant’s site. However, the company said everything was back to normal at 0710 GMT.

At the same time, Instagram, which is also owned by Facebook, reported problems with its mobile application which was failing to load and would not post new pictures. AIM and the dating application Tinder were also affected by the outage.

Instagram, funny enough, reported they had a problem on their rival Twitter (TWTR: Nasdaq) at 0651 GMT. Their tweet said they were aware of a problem and thanked everyone for their patience.

Facebook has yet to make an official comment as disgruntled users took to Twitter, which had no outage, to voice frustration. Many users also took to microblogging to poke fun of Facebook.

Waiting on Earnings to be Released

Facebook will release its earnings results on Wednesday along with its full year results for 2014. This is not the first time the social networking giant has had global disruptions to its service. In 2010, the company had its “worst outage” they have ever had when the site went down for two hours thanks to a mishandled error condition. Last June, Facebook went down for half an hours after users were unable to log in. This was another global outage as news wires reported the problem was around the world.
