It’s Official. Tinder has a Brand New CEO

o-TINDER-APP-facebookThe ever popular mobile dating app Tinder has made it official. They are bringing on Chris Payne, a high profile tech executive, to be their new chief executive officer. He will replace former CEO and co-founder Sean Rad.

The company has been looking for a replacement since October, but Rad has stayed on during the search. Rad will remain on the board and with the company. Rad will become president as well as head up product and marketing. Payne will run everything else. Most recently Payne was on of eBay’s (EBAY: Nasdaq) top executives running the core shopping marketplace division in North America. He left that job late last year.

There had been talks that Payne wanted the CEO job at eBay’s mobile payments division, known as PayPal. However, that did not transpire and he left the company to pursue other business ventures. That venture was Tinder, where he already was at work.

Payne joined eBay in 2009 after selling his software startup Positronic to another company. Before that he worked at Microsoft (MSFT: Nasdaq) for nearly 13 years. He headed up their search unit, then called Windows Search Live and other divisions. He was also at Amazon.com (AMZN: Nasdaq) for three years.

The new CEO hire comes at a time when the dating startup. Tinder is looking to continue its huge growth, especially with young people. It has finally released its first major product to generate revenue, called Tinder Plus in the US and United Kingdom. This product was criticized when it was revealed, as it charges old customers more. It is way too soon to tell how new users are liking the product.

Tinder has been under pressure to find a new CEO after Rad came under some controversy related to another top level executive officer at the company. Tinder had spoken with a number of top level names, including David Sacks, who founded Yammer. Yammer was purchased by Microsoft for $1.2 billion in 2012.
