Fast Food Wars Heats up. Who will Win? McDonalds or Taco Bell?

McDonaldsSometimes, as I am going over the news wires and looking for news to bring you, I come along some fun little tidbits. Today some analysts are wondering who will win between McDonald’s (MCD: NYSE) and Taco Bell in the latest food wars round.

Right now McDonald’s is offering customers free food if the bring a current food purchase receipt from Taco Bell to the window. Competition has always been fierce in the fast food market, but it appears to be heating up even further.

This offer is being held in McDonald’s location in northeast Pennsylvania as the restaurant chain will give clients a free Egg McMuffin to anyone who brings them a Taco Bell breakfast receipt. The off ends April 17, 2015 and is limited to one per person. Right now it is not clear if this will spread to other regions across the United States but it looks like McDonald’s in Texas is now making the same offer.

McDonald’s representatives have not commented on this program as of yet.

In the fast food industry, especially in the States, breakfast is a key battleground. Restaurants fight, with a great deal of passion, for customers. Restaurant chains are always increasing their breakfast menus to offer more and at a better value than the next restaurant chain.

Since the end of February, spending on breakfast is up seven percent in the fast food sector. This is according to a recent report released by NPD Group/CREST. This rise is more than two times what we have seen for lunch and even dinner. This latest round shows that McDonald’s feels that Taco Bell is providing stiffer competition and is taking a fast stand to fight back and retain customers.

In a recent interview with Yahoo Finance, McDonald’s CAO (Chief Administrative Officer) Peter Benson said that breakfast was “the strongest” time of the day the restaurant had right now.

Even as the fast food giant faces competition from Taco Bell, which recently launched a national breakfast ad campaign, as well as other competitors, breakfast sales at McDonald’s has increased by six percent since February.
