European Markets Seen Higher Tuesday Morning

Futures on the FTSE 100 are up three points. Futures in Germany are up almost twenty points and in France they are up nine points.

European investors are digesting British economic data. The CBI (Confederation of British Industry) and PwC, were released on Tuesday. Both showed that there is an environment of business sentiment in the United Kingdom. There is a degree of uncertainty clouding the country’s future with leaving the European Union. British Prime Minister Theresa May will relaunch her leadership in a major speech this afternoon in London. This follows poor election result last month in which she lost her party’s governing majority.

European Investors Look to Earnings

On the corporate earnings front, today, Marks & Spencer and, in the United States, PepsiCo are due to report second quarter earnings. Both report before their respective market openings.

In Brussels, there is a European Union of finance ministers (ECOFIN). Also on tap, for today, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde will be speaking in Croatia, at a conference.

In commodity news, specifically crude oil, the World Petroleum Congress in Istanbul, will see Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak speaking. He will stress the flexibility of an agreement between major producers to reduce production, curbing supply, thus supporting oil prices.
