Boosting China operations: Sharp sets up marketing unit in Shenzhen
OSAKA — Sharp has established a sales subsidiary in Shenzhen to strengthen operations in China and prop up its mainstay LCD segment hit by the country’s economic slowdown.
Sharp previously had relied on its Hong Kong and Shanghai staff members to oversee marketing in southern China, home to a number of PC and smartphone makers. The company aims for a turnaround by establishing a unit more closely rooted in the region.
A Hong Kong-based sales affiliate founded the 23-person company to market LCDs and electronic components with a capital of 3 million yuan ($471,913).
Sharp revamped its corporate structure starting Thursday for swifter decision making. It created the Display Device Marketing Division and the Electronic Components Marketing Division as part of the effort.
